Appointment Policies
(Life-threatening Emergencies, Walk-in Appointments, Scheduled Appointments, No Show & Cancellations)

Life-threatening Emergencies:

Always call 911 immediately in case of a life-threatening emergency (see Seconds Save Lives is an article by the American College of Emergency Physicians).

At Acute Family Medicine Clinic, Inc our providers have over 40 years of combined emergency room experience but our clinic is not equipped to manage life-threatening emergencies. We can treat minor injuries, such as cuts, lacerations, and broken bones. In the case of a minor injury during office hours, go directly to the clinic for a walk in appointment. If you have any concern that you may have a life-threatening condition you should call 911 immediately.

Walk-in Appointments:

We realize that illnesses and accidents often occur unexpectedly. In an effort to provide the convenience of timely medical care we offer walk in appointments. We maintain at least one provider on duty at all times whose primary responsibility is to care for patients who walk in. Walk in appointments will be seen as soon as the provider is able. There may be a wait if multiple people show up at the same time, but it is worthwhile to receive the necessary care when you need it.

It is our policy that complicated and senior patients will be required to have their initial service performed by one of our physicians. We reserve the right to verify eligibility criteria prior to the initial service and acceptance into Acute Family Medicine Clinic, Inc.

Scheduled Appointments:

For a scheduled appointment please call (907) 622-4325 (HEAL). It is our priority to be punctual with patients who have a scheduled appointment (except in the case of an emergency). We encourage but do not require scheduled appointments for preventative health visits, physicals, pap exams, chronic medical conditions, skin biopsies, and procedures in general.

Procedures Requiring a Scheduled Appointment

We do require appointments for IUD counseling and vasectomy counseling, which must be accomplished on a day prior to the procedure and by the same provider who will perform the procedure. One of our receptionists will be happy to assist you in scheduling an appointment at the earliest possible convenience. Every attempt will be made to schedule the appointment with the provider of your choice. More information on our vasectomy procedure is available in our Your Health section.

It is our policy that complicated and geriatric patients will be required to have their initial service performed by one of our physicians when possible.

No Show & Cancellation of Scheduled Appointments

A failure to present at the time of a scheduled appointment will be recorded in the patients’ chart as a “No Show.” We incur the cost of dedicated providers and staff to provide scheduled appointments. We understand that there are legitimate reasons for a missed appointment, however if three such events occur in your chart we may ask you to find a new provider.

We request that cancellations be made as early as possible, and preferably 24 hours in advance, so that we are able to schedule another patient in the appointment block.
